How to Design Your Own Wedding Invitations
Designing your own wedding invitations can either be a do it yourself venture or one in which you work with a printing company to get what you want. If you decide designing your own wedding invitations is the way you want to go, the following will see you through the process with little or no stress.
1. The first step in designing your own wedding invitations is to decide the theme of the wedding. Your invitations should reflect that theme.
2. Next you’ll select the paper and design of your invitation. Wedding invitations are traditionally either four by six or five by seven inches in size. Some couples opt for a single sheet of paper while others prefer a single fold card style. Either is fine. Paper prices vary depending on the quality and content of the paper. Cardstock is by far the least expensive with linen and crepe papers being considerably higher in cost.
3. To design your own wedding invitations means you will need to decide what the invitations will say and what they will look like. Plain paper with text? Embossing? Picture(s)? Study catalogs or online sources for design ideas and selecting the proper wordage. There are examples available of how to properly word an invitation no matter what the circumstances are.
Will you be using a website? If so, make sure it is spelled out clearly in a printed (not script) font for easy reading. Will you be offering the option of posting the RSVP reply? Include postage.
5. No need to go to a lot of expense on the envelopes. Most people still use the inner and outer envelope, but it’s alright and ecologically responsible to use just one and making the RSVP reply a postcard.
6. When designing your own wedding invitations, you’ll most likely use clear labels to address the envelopes. If your handwriting is consistent and neat, addressing the inner envelope by hand (if used) is fine.
The outer envelope should be done using clear labels printed on your computer or by a professional or friend skilled in the art of calligraphy. The return address on the invitation as well as the mailing address on the RSVP cards (if necessary) should be done with clear printed labels.
