Where To Find Unique Wedding Reception Ideas
There’s almost a mentality of ‘keeping up with the Jones’’. But with that being said, here are a few ideas you might want to mull over when planning your unique wedding reception.
1. Go back to doing things the way they did them in the 50’s and 60’s. Don’t bother with the big meal, the dance and DJ. Keep things simpler by serving cake, punch, tea, wine, coffee, and finger foods such as fruit and vegetable trays. Set the tables as if you’re having an afternoon tea.
You might even be able to muster up enough of those clear glass dessert sets from your mom, aunts and grandma. You and your new husband will spend time going from table to table visiting with guests and personally thanking each of them for coming. You might even take the time to open a few gifts-those given by parents, grandparents or other special relatives.
2. How about a picnic reception? Hold the reception outdoors, serve cold fried chicken with all your other favorite picnic foods, tea and lemonade, and of course, cake. Oh, and instead of dancing (or in addition to), play yard games.
3. Are you having a tropical or beach-theme wedding? Carry the idea over by having a unique wedding reception using fish bowls (with real fish, of course) for table centerpieces. Serve salmon, crab cakes, shrimp and maybe even sushi. WARNING: This type of unique wedding reception comes with a hefty price tag.
(A) You won’t have to wait around all day getting nervous and crazy.
(b) You and your husband will be able to leave earlier to get started on the honeymoon and won’t be dead tired.
3. Your guests will love you for it. They can attend the wedding and get on with their day afterwards. I know, as crazy as it sounds, they really do have a life outside your wedding. The brunch can consist of breakfast casserole dishes, fruit trays, pastries and breads with jams and flavored butters.
5. Another unique wedding reception that is gaining popularity due to the added popularity of destination weddings is what we’ll call the ‘after or delayed reception’. This is a wedding reception usually held weeks after the couple is married.
Family and friends gather at a specified location for a light meal or desserts only to view wedding photos, the video of their wedding and to visit with the newlyweds and wish them well. For an additional fun, parlor games such as those played at a couple’s shower can be played.
For additional unique wedding reception ideas, search the internet, ask your friends or better yet…use your imagination. After all, your wedding and your unique wedding reception should be as special and unique as the love you and your husband-to-be share.
